The Canadian telcos launched their Zoompass network-based P2P service in June 2009, and included contactless cards issued by the small Peoples Bank for subscribers to use at the point of sale. The addition of the passive sticker, which users can affix to their phones, adds an m-payment element while the telcos wait for NFC phones. A representative of their joint venture, EnStream, denies the telcos are after the payments business of Canada’s Big Five banks.
